ABC Fishing Reports Port Clinton
Lake Erie’s western basin is loaded with the best numbers and differant year classes of walleye that we have seen in a long time. Making this summers outlook July and August very promising. The Turn Around buoy to the Duck Head – The Tit and between West Sister to Middle Sister. Lots of walleye.
The super two day blow from last weekend muddied the water and has slowed the fishing temporially. It should be back on track in the next several days. There already is good visability on the wagon wheel about 4 feet has been reported and also in front of Camp Perry.
Keep a extra sharp look out as you navigate there are lots of logs and floating debre from the rivers running high.
Lake Erie’s annual mayffy hatch is winding down and with each passing day less may flys – hungrier walleye.
Lake Erie’s western basin is loaded with the best numbers and differant year classes of walleye that we have seen in a long time. Making this summers outlook very promising. The Turn Around buoy to the Duck Head – The Tit and between West Sister to Middle Sister. Lots of walleye. The super one day blow from a week ago muddied the water and slowed the fishing for a few days. Its back on track now. Trolling and drift fishing limits of walleye have been the norm the last two days. There are lots of fish closer to shore how ever with the rivers in flood a week ago we have lots of suspended clay which takes a long time to settle out. Keep a extra sharp look out as you navigate there are lots of logs and floating debre from the rivers. We have been fishing N NE of West Sister to the Canadian Line just under Middle. Drift fishing casting our standard #4 Deep Cup Hex Pattern Colorado Blade. 3/4 ounce tighten up just before you hit bottom and skim the bottom five feet with your spinner. Working a ten count for me. Bottom bouncers 2 to 4 cranks up with long 3 foot leads. Canadian Waters is producing rock gators 3 to 6 year old walleye 2 to 6 lbs Mill Point – Chickenolle, Winter, Gull and Kelly’s Schoal.
It has been a fantastic year thus far walleye fishing on Lake Erie. April and May – Lots of walleye. Some days better than others how ever a steady right thru ! Big medium and small. We are seeing lots of one, two, three and four year old walleye. This summer should be excellent walleye fishing on Lake Erie’s western basin. Western basin walleye are 2 – 3 and 4 year olds which are 16 to 24 inch walleye. What I mean by this is this age of walleye does not migrate to the east as the water warms stacking the odds in favor of excellent walleye fishing this June July and August. We are still working near the outside reef shelves may be a half mile or so north in in the flats 28 to 30 feet of water. Clinton Reef to Mouse has had a good bite the last several days but so has Niagara to Green A, B, and C cans. Follow the outsde shelf break west from Crane Reef to where it bends north on the Michigan shore line – fishing excellent. Just west of the Gravel Pitts. All these areas have been seeing good action. Get on the gravel Pitts rocky strucure and the water is to clean Get out of the clean water and fish in the stained water. We have been drift fishing and today was another very good day. We fished from West of A can to just east of B can. Most of the walleye were on a 10 count 3/4 ounce weight coupled to our standard Gold spinner. Cast slighlly down wind – winding just enough to put a little pressure on the spinner and as the boat started pulling the spinner pretty much stop winding and let the boat drift finish pulling the spinner around the swing. Nice size 3 and 4 year old walleye made up the bulk of our drift fishing catches today. Two to four lbs.
