West Branch Reservoir Fishing Report

The air temps have dropped off the last 24 hours with a current air temp of 26 and it likely won't get much warmer until tomorrow with a high of 40. The next few days and nights are going to be pretty cold and then it looks like Wednesday will be back in the 40's. The last few days offered good fishing for everyone, on all of the rivers with good surface activity. The West Branch is flowing at 274cfs at Hale Eddy with temp of 44. The lower East Branch is 626 cfs at Fishs Eddy with a temp of 44 as well. The main Delaware at Lordville is 1, 200 cfs and 45 degrees. We aren't expecting too much surface activity with the colder weather but nymphing could be an option. The last few days we had some good numbers of small black stoneflies in the #16-18 range that the fish were taking, both on top and down below. You will also see some small, #18-20 Chimarra caddis mixed in with the stones. We have been seeing more mayflies every day with warm air temps, especially on the mainstem and lower West Branch. We have been seeing some 18-20 Blue Winged Olives and 16-18 Blue Quills. We've been seeing some Quill Gordons on the lower West and mainstem. A few Hendricksons have also been on the mainstem and have made for some great fishing for some happily guided clients. All who fished the last few days did very well for this time of year so we are looking forward to some warmer temps. Bundle up for the next couple days and we should have some better weather by mid-week. Lotsa' Luck

We are getting some consistent rain this Monday morning and it looks like it will last until mid-afternoon with highs in the low 50's. We had some warmer weather this weekend with temps near 60 on both days. The warmer weather did get the bugs going with a solid number of small stoneflies, a few small Blue Winged Olives, some small Chimarra caddis, a few early Hendricksons and Quill Gordons on the main Delaware with the warmer water temps it had. The rivers are all in great shape and the current rain will help keep them at healthy spring levels. The West Branch at Hale Eddy has bumped up to 700 cfs with a temp of 41 degrees, the main Delaware at Lordville is 1, 600 with a temp of 45 degrees. The East Branch is 580 cfs below the Beaverkill with the warmest temp of 46 degrees this morning and above at Harvard the temp is 176 cfs and 44. Tomorrow the temps are going to be a bit cooler in the upper 30's but the rest of the week is forecast to be in the upper 50's to 60. The upper West Branch, from the PA border up will be open for fishing starting Friday, April 1st. Lotsa' Luck
